| ‘What you lookin at MAC?’ : A tribute
to Mitchell A. Climan
300 individually painted 2 x 2” black/black
foamcore squares mounted onto a 40 x 60” foamcore backing;
B/W Acrylic Paint Portrait created in memory of my father, Mitchell
A. Climan. (Acrylic on foamcore. paper; 40 x 60”)
Taking scheme inspiration from artists such as
Chuck Close and stylization from artists such as Van Gogh, Nancy
Ostrovsky, and Harvey Breverman, ‘What you lookin at MAC?’
was created to help me through the bereavement time shortly following
my fathers untimely passing. I loved my father very much. I was
and continue to be influenced immensely by his incredible knowledge,
character, charm and good nature. I had been meaning to do a portrait
of this magnitude for quite some time, and on 6/27/05 I received
the impetus I needed to create it. The work was displayed a week
after his passing at a memorial service in High Falls, NY. |
